Wilco Peanut Co. can trace its origins as a processor of
southwestern agricultural commodities back to 1914 with A.D. Warnken
& Sons. It was here in 1947 that Charles H. Warnken Sr. and Charles
H. Warnken Jr. worked closely with officials to initiate the first Certified
Peanut Seed ever produced in the state of Texas. Then in 1958 Charles
H. Warnken Jr. began working with Wilson County Peanut Co. as manager
of the shelling plant. By 1975 Charles had full ownership of the company
and changed the name to Wilco Peanut Co.
Working with Charles was his brother-in-law, Lawrence Bertrand, and
oldest son, Byron. Byron's other two brothers, James and Kurt, as well
as their cousin, Larry Bertrand, joined the company in the late 1970's.
Later joining the group was the cousin of Charles, J.W. Gore. Byron,
Kurt and James Warnken currently operate Wilco
Peanut Co., which recently grew to its fifth generation with
Byron's son-in-law, Mark F. Loeffler, and oldest son, Joseph R. Warnken.
Today Wilco Peanut Co. utilizes
eight strategically located buying points spread throughout Texas and
all have state-of-the-art drying and precleaning equipment. Since 1978
the offices and shelling plant of Wilco Peanut
Co. have been located 30 miles south of San Antonio in Pleasanton,
Texas. This location is a great asset to Wilco
Peanut Co. for its World Export Market. Being close to the
Mexican border has allowed Wilco Peanut Co.
to establish a mark and relationship with the Mexican Peanut Industry.
Also Wilco Peanut Co. is located
close to the seaport of Houston, which allows easy access for other
World Markets. Wilco Peanut Co.
can proudly say it has done business in some 50+ countries and has kept
relationships with many companies within those countries.
Wilco
Peanut Co. has succeeded by growing, but even more importantly
by becoming better. While growth is important, the commitment to quality
is never compromised. Their strong relationships with their farmers,
clients, and employees have established Wilco
Peanut Co. as a recognizable company in the Peanut Industry.
With knowledge and experience gained in the past and applied in the
present, the future looks bright for Wilco
Peanut Co. and those with whom they do business.
